The 2013 vintage (like the 2012 vintage) was fantastic in Bennett Valley. The growing season was long with moderate temperatures and very low disease pressure in the vineyard. As with other Frostwatch Chardonnays, this wine is a blend of two different clonal selections. Clone 4 contributes a full mouthfeel with loads of red apple fruit, while fruit from the Platt-Wente Block contributes vibrant citrus notes and a touch of minerality. This wine continues to improve with additional bottle aging and still has yet to reach its full potential. The wine pairs well with a variety of foods but is rich and complex enough to drink on its own. 92pts “Two Puffs” Connoisseurs’ Guide

We use neutral barrels for all our Sangiovese lots so as not to overpower the delicate fruit. We can’t say enough about the Stolpman vineyard and we feel lucky to be able to source this great Sangiovese. During the destemming we threw in a little Viogner and Syrah fruit, less the 3%, into the fermenter for fun and maybe some added complexity. This wine was gently destemmed then cold soaked for 4 days and fermented with gentle punchdowns. Aged in neutral tight-grained French barrels for 19 months

Variety: 100% Nebbiolo Provenance: Dogliani (Cuneo) 11 days at 28° using pumping over technique, 30 months in big barrel (30Hl) and following 3 month bottle, unfiltered. This full bodied wine is garnet red in color and is complex to the nose; ethereal, dry flowers and spices. Elegant in taste, persistent with spices and red berries.
Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault Nearly dense very dark garnet with purple rim. The warm, generous aroma displays mature black cherry with a suggestion of jam and spice. In the mouth, this Gigondas is far more restrained and less expressive at this stage. The moderately full taste is not dense and offers underlying ripe black cherry matched by notable acidity and ripe tannin which come up at the conclusion.
The original cuttings were imported to Calistoga in the Napa Valley from the Savoie region in the French Alps in about 1880. Its original name was Doux Noir, or “soft black,” later called Charbonneau (carbon water). Subsequently, Charbono was wiped out in Europe by the Phylloxera root louse infestation. Ripe aromas suggest dried cherries, cranberries, rose petals, and a suggestion of white pepper. A gentle mid-palate with flavors of black cherry candy is framed with soft tannin and bright acidity, which provides the long lingering finish.
Red berry fruit aromas and flavors evenly coat the palate and linger long in the finish. Gently gripping tannins carry a hint of espresso character. A delicious blend of bright fruit flavors. More than half of this blend are classic claret varieties (Cabernet, Malbec, Merlot, Petit Verdot), which marry with Rhone-rooted varieties (Syrah, Petite Sirah, Charbono). Delicious in its youth, this red blend will age elegantly for many years. This year’s blend is 28% Merlot, 19% Petite Sirah, 14% Charbono, 12% Malbec, 11% Syrah, 10% Petit Verdot, and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 2012 Pinot Noir is the product of a fantastic vintage in Bennett Valley. The wine has power yet exhibits the delicacy one expects in excellent Pinot. It exhibits bright cherry and plum flavors and shows good structure that promises additional development. Indeed, if this wine ages like the three previous Frostwatch Pinots, one can confidently expect further development in the bottle, both aromatically and on the palate.
