Frostwatch: Chardonnay, Bennett Valley Montemar Ritas Crown Chardonnay Monticello Vineyards Chardonnay
The 2013 vintage (like the 2012 vintage) was fantastic in Bennett Valley. The growing season was long with moderate temperatures and very low disease pressure in the vineyard. As with other Frostwatch Chardonnays, this wine is a blend of two different clonal selections. Clone 4 contributes a full mouthfeel with loads of red apple fruit, while fruit from the Platt-Wente Block contributes vibrant citrus notes and a touch of minerality. This wine continues to improve with additional bottle aging and still has yet to reach its full potential. The wine pairs well with a variety of foods but is rich and complex enough to drink on its own.
92pts “Two Puffs” Connoisseurs’ Guide
Highest vineyard in Sta Rita Hills, Sauvignon Blanc from Vogelzang Vineyard highly sought after spot in Happy Canyon and Grenache Blanc from Tierra Alta Vineyard, a great Rhone focused vineyard in Ballard Canyon where many great Grenache Blanc originate. Super creamy and buttery. No oak notes as you drink it. Lighter straw color and lingering taste.
Robert Foley Chardonnay Monticello Vineyards: Chardonnay, Napa, Estate Grown Frostwatch Ophira Reserve Chardonnay Sonoma
White peach, star jasmine and gardenia aromas
mingle with a trace of vanilla. Bright fresh flavors
evolve on the mid-palate and vibrantly burst in a
delicious framework of fresh natural acidity. This
is crafted in the style that we prefer, which avoids
the heavy hands of malo-lactic fermentation and
excessive oak, creating a delightful Chablis-style
wine rather than a ‘typical’ buttery Chardonnay
Our Chardonnay offers aromatics of citrus and green apple which are complemented by a very slight butterscotch aroma and a subtle layer of oak creaminess. The wine is medium-bodied and a well- balanced finish of acidity. The 18 months of barrel aging and frequent lees stirring, coupled with the exceptional fruit from the Platt Wente Clone in 2014, give this wine the trademark laser-like focus, complexity and unctuous mouth feel expected from our Ophira reserve. The wine is drinking beautifully now but will get even better for several years at a minimum. The last vintage (2013) of the Ophira received excellent reviews (94 pts from the Wine Enthusiast, 91 Points from Connoisseurs Guide, 90 Points from The Wine Advocate and a Gold Medal at the Chronicle Wine Competition) but we feel that this vintage will be even better.

The Wine Advocate
Straw yellow color: Aromas of lemon drop, Reinette apple skin and fresh herbs (chamomile). Full-bodied and concentrated, this wine displays a creamy and rich texture which coats the palate for a very long time. Built to age gracefully for over a decade, this wine will gain being cellared for six months to a year before starting to reveal itself. 98 Point Robert Parker
Aubert Hudson Vineyard Carneros Chardonnay 2018 Peter Michael 'Belle Cote' Knights Valley Chardonnay 2014
The 2018 Hudson is Carneros Chardonnay at its finest. Seductive aromas of lemon confit, stone fruit preserves, and almond croissant ascend from the glass, melding with notions of flinty crushed gravel, apple pie spice, and honeycomb. The palate is textured and full-bodied with layers of orchard fruit oils interlaced with a saline complexity and a bucolic note of sunbaked hay. Balanced and well-proportioned, enjoy this wine over the next 10 to 15 years. The wine has a slight haziness showing their commitment to minimal intervention winemaking. 97 Pt Robert Parker Distinctly intense and powerfully hedonistic with aromas of lychee nut, mangosteen, passion fruit, citrus, rose petal and orange blossom with a background of mineral, candied orange, yellow peach, greengage, nougat, and toasted almond. Accents of pain grillé and brioche, coupled with crisp natural acidity and minerals complete the weighty and creamy mouth feel. 98 Pt Robert Parker
